Titration made easy – Merck’s titration road show through Latin America

- Participants at Merck's titration roadshow
From October 19 to October 30, 2009, Merck’s customers had the opportunity to send their lab staff to informative, engaging titration seminars in Brazil (Sao Paulo), Chile (Santiago), Peru (Lima), and Colombia (Bogota). Each event attracted between 70 and 100 participants.
What is titration?
Titration, a widely used method that has been included in most of the key international pharmacopeias, can be used to reliably and accurately determine the concentration of any substance, such as a raw material, substance or finished good. The Karl Fischer titration method, for instance, is used to determine the water content of a given product.
Theory meets practice: For best titration results
Titration experts from Merck and Mettler-Toledo, the Swiss manufacturer of precision instruments, provided attendees with a unique learning experience. Each seminar was organized by the local subsidiaries of Merck KGaA and Mettler-Toledo and divided into theoretical and practical parts, as well as Q&A sessions.
Teach your staff, improve your titration
Every participant came away with ready-to-use tips on how to achieve the highest quality in titration. The highlight was practical demonstrations of titration that were filmed and broadcast live onto large screens so that everyone could easily follow the procedures in the lab.
- General titration: Participants learned how to calibrate an electrode, determine the titer, and identify the acidic content of a sample.
-
Karl Fischer titration: Here, it was demonstrated how to perform volumetric and coulometric titration and to determine the water content of samples such as shampoo and sunflower oil.
With Merck, titration is rapid, reliable, and accurate
Merck offers a wide range of innovative reagents and solutions for titration:
- TitriPUR® complements the product line for volumetric titration, setting new standards for high quality titration with products that conform to the reagents section of the European pharmacopeia and of the USP
- Merck’s titration products also include: apura® (a range of products that guarantee a faster, highly accurate Karl Fischer titration), Titriplex® (for complexometric titration), and Titrisol® (a line of concentrates)
- Titripac® provides customers with smart packaging that prevents contamination and allows for a direct connection to the titrator
